ABOUT US

Hope For Desperate Hearts is a registered 501(c)(3) working to improve the quality of life for the African community in New York since 2017. And, since 2012, Hope For Desperate Hearts has been working to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged populations in Burkina Faso.

ABOUT BURKINA FASO

Burkina Faso ranks 184th out of 191 countries in the 2021–2022 Human Development Index report of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Since 2015, the country has been a target of terrorist attacks that have resulted in poverty and population displacements.

 

The country has a high levels of food insecurity and one of the lowest literacy rates in the world.

 

According to the United Nations' 2019 Human Development Index, Burkina Faso is the 7th poorest country in the world, out of 186 countries ranked.

 

43.7% of the population of Burkina Faso live on less than $1.90 a day.

 

The adult literacy rate in Burkina Faso is 36%.

 

The average life expectancy in Burkina Faso is 59. Deaths due to malaria are 103.3 per 100,000 people.

 

Infant mortality rate is 60.9 per 1,000 live births while under-five mortality rate is 88.6 per 1,000 live births.
