PROJECTS

SCHOOL ESSENTIALS

Completing school is so important, but not always easy without the right supplies. HFDH provides more than 100 children in the villages of Komsilga and Douna, in Burkina Faso, with backpacks for school. And since not every village has a school, some children have to travel far distances to get to class. Hope for Desperate Hearts launched a program to provide bicycles to kids who needed them.

TEACHER TRAINING

Completing the training to become a teacher can be life-changing, but the government can only support a very limited number of individuals each year. Last year, HFDH learned about an orphaned young woman's difficult living situation, and the organization paid for the young woman to complete a two-year government training to become a teacher. She is on track to graduate this year.

SMALL BUSINESS PROGRAM

In 2021, Hope For Desperate Hearts launched a small-business training program that teaches stay-at-home women to weave fabrics that they can then sell to make a living.

HFDH provides graduates of the program with the necessary materials to continue what they learned and to set up shop at the market each week, beginning a new way of life.

DRIVER TRAINING

Since 2021, HFDH pays for training for nearly a dozen men per year to get their driver’s license. As part of the training, the men completed lessons in the classroom, passed a road test, and are able to then apply for jobs as drivers in the nearby city.

HOPE FOR WIDOWS

There are many widows in the villages of Burkina Faso that are in need of basics to get by, such as food, clothing, bedding, and medical attention. Hope For Desperate Hearts supplied 70 elderly widows with regular shipments of food and necessary household items to improve their daily lives.

OUR PROGRAM FOR THE AFRICANS IN NEW YORK INCLUDES:

No African Hungry: Mobile Food Pantry and Restaurant Tickets to make produce and hot meals available to those facing food insecurity in the African community in NYC.

Back-To-School: HFDH partners with local organizations to help provide backpacks to African children in New York before the school year begins.

Sugar donation: We support African Muslims with sugar during the month of Ramadan.

Christmas Toys: we collect and distribute toys to make the holidays a little brighter for African children living in the city.

First Steps in NY: We help new African immigrants, especially those from non-English-speaking-countries, to find their way in New York, including teaching them basic English in partnership with a group of High School students and one of their teachers.
