A Note from Our Founder

Updated: Mar 24

Hello, my name is Barkissa.

I was born and raised in a little village, Douna, in Burkina Faso, West Africa, a landlocked county.

My family life was always a joyful place with 17 brothers and sisters and parents who were warm and welcoming to all people, including visitors and travelers from different backgrounds.

At meal time, there were always unexpected guests to share our meal.

As a result of being brought up in a rich life, I grew up with the desire to be loving and helpful like my parents were to others.

After I got married, my husband and I regularly welcomed kids into our home and I became known in our church as the “mother of kids”, in particular to orphans and children in vulnerable living conditions.

In November 2008, my husband’s work transported our family to New York City.

In November 2012, I founded Hope For Desperate Hearts, whose mission is to improve the living conditions of the disadvantaged populations in Burkina Faso and help them to build a better future.

I am thankful to God, our stay in New York City gave me the opportunity to make a lot of wonderful friends who have been helping me to bless many people in my country.

Since April 2017, Hope For Desperate Hearts is a registered 501(c)(3) working for the wellbeing of the African community in New York.

I am thankful to God for giving me the opportunity, through Hope For Desperate Hearts, to advocate for a better and worthy life for those-in-need in my country, Burkina Faso, and be an encouragement to the African community in New York.

I am thankful for the people, the Churches and the Nonprofit Organizations that are helping Hope For Desperate Hearts.

We are open to more fruitful partnerships through a network of friends, businesses, churches, and nonprofits, so that we can fully develop Hope for Desperate Hearts’ projects, in order to help those in need in Burkina Faso, and the African community in New York.

We appreciate all contributions, regardless of the amount.

God bless you.

God bless America.

God bless all of the people that are helping Hope For Desperate Hearts around the world.

God bless Burkina Faso, my dear and beautiful native country.

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:40:
